Primostar had the pleasure of hosting an international visitor group from UNC Chapel Hill, together with Greg Gangi, visiting several landmark construction projects in Tallinn.
During the visit, we explored three very different construction sites that highlighted the varied challenges related to the durability, watertightness, and protection of concrete structures
✔️ Paljassaare Wastewater Treatment Plant – discussing the importance of concrete protection systems, including Sika solutions, in aggressive environments.
✔️ Rail Baltica tunnel near Tallinn Airport – discussing underground concrete construction, shrinkage crack control system, and the importance of reliable waterproofing.
✔️ Liven Regati Homes – discussing how design decisions influence the durability, maintenance needs, and lifecycle costs of reinforced concrete structures.
Throughout the day, our discussions were guided by one simple question: how can we build concrete structures that remain durable and watertight for decades?
Thank you to Greg Gangi, Kathryn Wolfe, Lindsey Subramaniam, Abdedaim B., Elizabeth Poitras, Carly Krothe, Olivia Pozytko, and Janelle Choi for the insightful discussions and great questions.
The best classroom is a real construction site.
